Izzy Heltai shares happy,” the final single from his new EP mostly myself again, which releases tomorrow, October 20. An achingly sweet ode to the simplicity of youth, the song pays homage to the people we are before we see the world as it really is and society tells us who we should become. It’s accompanied by a tender music video that finds Izzy getting back to the earliest version of himself, featuring home footage of him as a child interspersed with more recent clips from his life now. The video was featured this morning at Under The Radar, who said “Heltai’s sparse and simple arrangement builds the space necessary for a heartfelt confessional, soaking his quiet lyrical musings in the soft golden hues of memory.”

“My favorite line in this song is, ‘They were gods in my eyes, all of the people that I saw as grown up and now I am the same age as they were then and I still don’t feel grown,’” says Heltai. “I was talking to an old highschool teacher of mine, and she mentioned that when I first met her, she was the age I am now. How we view and experience the world is relative, and dictated by our own subjective experience. As obvious of a statement as that might seem, moments when that is truly brought into clear view, really stick with me.”

In addition to “happy,” Izzy Heltai’s new EP also features his recent singles including the conversational “Fifteen” and the hopeful Bad Time.” Last month, Izzy shared his anticipated new single “25,” a gut-punch of a song that Paste Magazine called “an anthemic, hypnotic gauge of survival; a beautiful, gracious offering of enduring hope.”

Izzy has had a phenomenal few years since dropping his 2021 debut EP Day Plan (5 Songs Written 4 the End of the World), followed by two singles released earlier this year – Running Out,” which was featured in Rolling Stone’s Songs You Need To Know, and “All Of This Beauty,” which he performed on stage at Bridgestone Arena for the Love Rising benefit concert. He was recently nominated for Song of the Year (“Running Out”) and Folk Artist of the Year at the 2023 Boston Music Awards, and has toured across the country with Bear’s Den, The Mountain Goats, Deer Tick and Liza Anne. Last week, Izzy opened for Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit on the first night of their annual Ryman residency, and this fall he will join Joy Oladokun on their West Coast tour.
