“NIYAZ means yearning, a spiritual yearning that every human being has for something greater,” says vocalist Azam Ali about the name of her of ethno-electronic Iranian-American band with husband and multi-instrumentalist Loga Ramin Torkian. “Niyaz has the same meaning in several languages such as Farsi, Turkish, Urdu etc. Since we perform music in these languages, we wanted to choose a word we share in common.”
